Frequently Asked Question

What are my survivor annuity options?

# Back to all FAQs

Survivor annuity elections can be a difficult decision to make. If you are married when you submit your Federal Disability Retirement application, you will need to elect 1 of 3 survivor benefit options.

1. You can elect a Maximum Survivor Annuity
2. Partial Survivor Annuity
3. No Survivor Annuity

Now it’s important to remember that only a surviving spouse can receive a survivor annuity and each election will come with different reductions to your monthly annuity and different amounts left to your spouse. It’s also important to know that if your spouse were to pass before you, then the amount withheld from your annuity will be lost.
